Books I want to read

What books do you want to read?

I haven’t answered one of these before, but this one sits right at home – reading books is something I’ve recently picked up after not being into books for the longest time, primarily because my partner insisted I give it a shot – and I’m glad I did! I discovered I tend to enjoy fiction a lot more, and I’ve recently finished the six book series Shatter Me which was full of twists and turns. Right now, I’m reading through the Throne of Glass series, and I’d love to read more sci-fi and fiction books, some of which are mentioned below:

Dune Saga

Frank Herbet

The Martian

Andy Weir

Ender’s Saga

Orson Scott Card

Kite Runner

Khaled Hosseini

A court of thorns & roses

Sarah J. Maas

Catch-22

Joseph Heller

If you’ve ready any of these, feel free to share your thoughts on them, or nudge me to read one of these before the other – I can be convinced! Also, what are some of the books you’d like to read?

I read a lot, mostly mystery, but of late I have been delving into science fiction, I also enjoy Sarah Maas, and you might try the Murderbot series? Dang I can’t remember the authors name!

Thanks for the recommendation, sounds awesome! And it looks like it’s by Martha Wells.

Hello, fellow sci-fi fan! A great selection there. The Martian is a wonderful book, and if you enjoy it you should also read the author’s third book, Project Hail Mary (you can skip his second novel, Artemis, it’s only… okay?). Dune and its sequels are wonderful IMHO but they’re hard work; not light reading. If it’s not already on your list, you might want to take a look at Ted Chiang’s short story collections, Stories of Your Life and Others and Exhalation, both of which I adore.

A bit of great hard sci-fi with an angle I’ve never experienced before, that I read a few years back, was Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Time. By the time you’ve witnessed the multigenerational biological and social evolution of an arachnid species in such beautiful detail you’ll forget whether you’re “supposed” to be rooting for the humans or the spiders. There’s nothing quite like it.

If you don’t mind your sci-fi with a bit of a Lovecraftian vibe, you might enjoy the Rosewater trilogy, by Tade Thompson. More of a fantasy swing? Try the Stone Sky trilogy by N. K. Jemisin. Want something hopeful and feel-good? Absolutely anything by Becky Chambers is excellent: her Wayfarers series (stating with The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet) is delightful; separately I also recommend her novella To Be Taught, if Fortunate which is beautiful and bittersweet.
